Arrian

Greek historian and Roman statesman from Nicomedia in Bithynia — a pupil of the Stoic Epictetus, whose Discourses he recorded, who rose to the Roman consulship and the governorship of Cappadocia. Consciously modelling himself on Xenophon, he wrote the Anabasis of Alexander, the soberest surviving history of Alexander's campaigns, built on the eyewitness memoirs of the king's own officers Ptolemy and Aristobulus.
