Plato
c. 428–348 BC · Ancient Greece
Athenian philosopher, student of Socrates and founder of the Academy. He wrote in dialogue, staging Socrates in conversation on justice, love, knowledge, and the soul; the Republic and the Symposium are among the most influential books ever written. Whitehead called all later philosophy a series of footnotes to Plato.
